Bailey Valves

The original equipment Bosch diverter valves have a bit of a reputation for being feeble.  They tend to leak at high boost levels, robbing you of BHP.  Since my car has a rather larger power output than standard, I though it would be prudent to replace them with something a bit more robust.  The Bailey Motorsports DV30 valve has been popular with Audi TT owners, where the standard valve seems to have been a particular weak spot.  The DV30 is a piston type valve, rather than the standard diaphram type, and can cope with any boost pressure likely to be found on an S4.

I had them sitting around for ages, before they were finally installed during the K04 upgrade

You might think they look a bit conspicuous if you don’t want your dealer to notice that your car is modified.  In that case you might prefer the Forge valve, which is available in a “stealth” black anodised version.  It’s a bit pointless for my car as it’s pretty obvious it’s modified without looking at the valves.

As for performance, when I got the car back I did notice a bit of extra “snap” when changing up through the gears.  The word from AmD was that my original valves had “had it” anyway so it was worth doing.  That is also a new type L throttle body boot in the picture.  I bought it ages ago in case the old one tore, and thought it might as well go on during the upgrade.
